Senior Nursery Practitioner job summary

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Senior Nursery Practitioner to join our Early Years team. This is a fixed term role which is expected to end on 31 August 2027. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering high-quality early years provision, supporting children’s development and leading practice within a nurturing nursery environment.

Working closely with the Senior Leadership and Early Years team, you will help to create a safe, stimulating and engaging setting where every child can thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of a rich and engaging EYFS curriculum
  • Plan and organise purposeful learning experiences in partnership with colleagues
  • Observe, assess and track children’s progress, supporting next steps in learning
  • Promote children’s independence, communication, confidence and wellbeing
  • Adapt provision to meet the needs of all children, including those with SEND
  • Provide guidance and support to other staff, modelling effective practice
  • Maintain a safe, stimulating and well-organised learning environment
  • Build positive relationships with parents and carers

The ideal candidate will have:

  • a Level 3 qualification in Early Years Education and Childcare (or equivalent)
  • experience working within an early years setting
  • a strong understanding of the EYFS framework
  • experience in observing, assessing and supporting children’s development
  • knowledge of safeguarding and child protection requirements
  • excellent communication and organisational skills
  • the ability to lead, motivate and work effectively within a team
You will also have:
  • experience in a senior or supervisory role
  • experience mentoring or supporting colleagues
  • knowledge of Ofsted expectations and SEND practice
  • a caring, reliable and proactive approach to working with a genuine passion for early years education and a commitment to continuous professional development

This is a part time term time only role working 29 hours per week (4 days) over 38 weeks per annum. Candidates are inviting to contact Sharon Mullarkey, the Headteacher at Holmesdale Community Infant School to discuss the role further.
