Location: Fulford

Salary: Grade 6 – based on full-time equivalent of £27,514 - £30,015

Actual Annual Salary: £23,386 based on working 37 hours per week, in term time only.

Contract: 37 hours per week, term time only. Some flexibility in working hours is possible, provided the hours are distributed across five working days.

Start date: 1st September 2025

About the Role

As the Senior Science Technician, you will provide leadership and direction within the technician team, ensuring a safe, well-equipped, and efficiently managed environment for practical science teaching. You will take responsibility for overseeing the preparation and maintenance of equipment and materials, supporting the development of engaging and innovative practical activities.

Working closely with teaching staff and the Head of Department, you will help implement our vision for excellence in science education—promoting high standards, operational efficiency, and a culture of continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage a team of Science Technicians, including training and day-to-day deployment.
  • Prepare and set up materials, apparatus, and specimens for lessons, including demonstrations and practical work.
  • Ensure all practical activities are carried out safely and effectively, in compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Test, maintain, and where appropriate, repair laboratory equipment and ensure safe storage and disposal of materials.
  • Operate efficient systems for stock control, ordering, and inventory management.
  • Provide support for the development of new practical experiments and demonstrations.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation as required by departmental and legal policies.
  • Take responsibility for the maintenance and improvement of the science teaching environment.
