What skills and experience we're looking for

  • Support the Head of Science in delivering technical services for science teaching and ensure safe, stimulating lab environments.

  • Line manage and train Science Technician(s), including overseeing recruitment and performance.

  • Prepare, test, demonstrate, and dispose of equipment and materials for practical lessons, adhering to health and safety regulations.

  • Maintain, repair, and calibrate laboratory equipment, including IT hardware, and keep accurate safety and maintenance records.

  • Ensure proper storage and stock levels of chemicals and apparatus, following statutory guidelines.

  • Develop and implement systems to improve lab and prep room efficiency and cleanliness.

  • Manage ordering, deliveries, and budget tracking for science department resources using Best Value principles.

  • Provide technical advice and support to teachers and students during lessons and practicals.

  • Lead the induction and CPD for technical staff, ensuring ongoing safety and skills training.

  • Support curriculum development with technical expertise, including IT and new practical resources.

  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with health, safety, and safeguarding policies.

  • Participate in school events, meetings, CPD, and uphold the school’s Catholic ethos and code of conduct.
