Service Pupil Intervention Teacher job summary

The duties of the Service Pupil Intervention Teacher include:

  • To deliver a programme to enhance the academic progress of service pupils in Maths and English
  • To work closely with class teachers and other relevant colleagues
  • To carry out baseline and ongoing assessments of pupils and record information.
  • To set clear teaching objectives and specify how these will be taught and assessed.
  • Set tasks which challenge pupils and ensure high levels of interest.
  • Set appropriate and demanding expectations.
  • Set clear targets, building on prior attainment.
  • Be aware of individual pupil needs and make provision for pupils accordingly
  • Provide clear structures and planning for lessons maintaining pace, motivation, and challenge.
  • Make effective use of assessment
  • Ensure effective teaching and best use of available time.
  • Maintain a behaviour culture and ethos in line with the school’s ethos and expectations
  • Use a variety of teaching methods to enable all pupils to make progress
  • Ensure pupils acquire and consolidate knowledge, skills and understanding appropriate to the subject taught
  • Evaluate own teaching critically to improve effectiveness
  • To attend meetings as required.
  • Mark and monitor pupils' work and set targets for progress.
  • Assess and record pupils' progress systematically and keep records to check work is understood and completed
  • Prepare and present informative reports as required
  • To build positive relationships with parents
  • To prepare progress reports for parents

We are looking for a person who:

  • Have a secure knowledge of the relevant subjects – Maths and English
  • Have experience of teaching Maths and/or English to Primary or Year 7 pupils
  • Understand and evidence promoting high standards of literacy and maths
  • Demonstrate a critical understanding of developments in the subject/ curriculum areas.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:
    • how pupils develop and learn
    • what can inhibit learning
    • pupils’ capabilities and prior knowledge and how you have incorporated this into your planning and teaching
    • Evidence of building and maintaining positive relationships with pupils rooted in mutual respect Communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues and parents
    • Give pupils regular feedback, both orally and through accurate marking, and encourage pupils to respond to the feedback and take responsibility for their learning.
    • Know and understand how to assess the relevant subject and curriculum areas, including statutory assessment requirements and making use of formative and summative assessment to secure pupils’ progress.
    • Experience of using relevant data to monitor progress, set challenging targets, and plan subsequent lessons.
    • Experience of close working and sharing of practice with class teachers/colleagues
