We are looking for a practical and well-motivated person to work at Bonnygate Primary School. The role will include a wide range of responsibilities and duties connected with ground and facilities maintenance of the site including being a key holder responsible for opening and locking up the school. Under the direction of the Headteacher and the Osborne Co-operative Academy Trust H&S department you will also carry out Health and Safety checks in accordance with Trust policies to ensure the school remains compliant, and line manage the cleaners and site staff.
The successful candidate will be:
- A hands-on individual who can maintain, develop and implement systems and procedures;
- Practical; with good DIY skills;
- Able to contribute to projects and maintenance schedules;
- Self-motivated and willing to work on your own initiative
- Adaptable regarding hours of work to meet the needs of the school
- Able to communicate effectively with contractors and central functions
The successful candidate’s principal duties will include:
- Management of site utilisation during times that facilities are required.
- Management of Premises Budget, ensuring that the School's "Best Value" Policy requirements are met.
- Supervision of Capital Projects, from planning to completion, including liaison with all outside agencies and interested parties.
- Development of a maintenance programme, in conjunction with the Headteacher, for the premises and its equipment, arranging for repairs to be carried out.
- Organisation of continuous cover during the school session and for the duration of external hires, outside the normal school day.
- Supervise the Performance Management of the Site Team, ensure adequate records are kept, schedules adhered to and advise the Headteacher of all outcomes.
- Monitoring of on-site contractors and associated budgets.
- Organisation of plans and procedures for emergency situations and liaison with emergency services. Number 1 key holder on 24 hour call.

Maintenance
- Check building for routine maintenance matters and vandalism, reporting and taking appropriate action when necessary.
- Undertake day-to-day maintenance duties.
- Carry out checks on fire alarms, extinguishers, burglar alarms, residual current devices and visual checks of electrical fittings.
- Ensures that access to fire exits and equipment are free from obstruction.
Caretaking
- Ensure gullies, gutters, fall pipes and drainage systems, including foul drains, are free from blockages and arrange to clean when necessary, within the capabilities of the post holder and being mindful of Health and Safety regulations.
- Ensure footpaths, car parks, shrubberies and paved areas are kept clean and tidy condition.
- Take delivery of, if appropriate store, laundry, stationery, materials and other goods. Carry out porterage duties within the School.
- Operate and monitor the heating plant and temporary heating equipment to, whenever possible, maintain appropriate temperatures, in line with the Council’s Policy on energy conservation. Carries out frost protection procedures.
- Clean boiler house, stock/storerooms and other designated areas of the building, identified through consultation with the Site Manager. Cleans toilets during session times, as necessary. Periodically de-scales toilet furnishings and showerheads, surfaces and channels. Performs other emergency cleaning required due to accidents, illness, vandalism, building and equipment failure.
