Site Manager job summary

We are looking for a proactive, practical and organised Site Manager to take responsibility for the day-to-day management of our school site. This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same. You will lead on the maintenance, security and operational management of our modern school, ensuring that our buildings and grounds provide a safe, welcoming and well-maintained environment for students, staff and visitors.

Working closely with the Business Manager, you will oversee site maintenance, health and safety compliance, contractors and cleaning staff, while taking pride in maintaining high standards across the school. Relevant training will be provided where required.

About Us

Sir Thomas Fremantle School is an ambitious 11-16 secondary school at the heart of a close-knit community in North Buckinghamshire. With around 700 students, we pride ourselves on knowing each individual well and nurturing a strong sense of belonging. Our modern, purpose-built site opened in 2017 and offers excellent facilities to support high-quality teaching.

Our mission is simple: to provide every student with an outstanding education that inspires and equips them for their next steps. We know that exceptional schools are built on exceptional staff, which is why we place professional development and wellbeing at the centre of what we do. Staff benefit from high-quality training, opportunities to innovate, and a supportive culture that encourages reflective practice and growth.

The Role

As Site Manager, you will:

  • Lead the day-to-day operation, maintenance and security of the school site.
  • Act as the main key holder, including responding to emergency call-outs where required.
  • Carry out maintenance, repairs and inspections to keep the buildings and grounds in excellent condition.
  • Ensure statutory health and safety checks are completed and accurately recorded.
  • Monitor and maintain building services, including heating, lighting, alarms, CCTV and other site systems.
  • Manage contractors, obtain quotations and oversee maintenance projects.
  • Supervise the cleaning and site team, ensuring high standards are maintained.
  • Organise deliveries, stock control and general site logistics.
  • Promote a safe, secure and welcoming environment for everyone who uses the school.

What We're Looking For

We are keen to hear from candidates who:

  • Have experience in premises, facilities or site management.
  • Have a good understanding of health and safety requirements.
  • Are practical, resourceful and confident carrying out a range of maintenance tasks.
  • Can prioritise workloads and respond calmly to unexpected situations.
  • Have experience supervising staff and managing contractors.
  • Possess good IT, communication and organisational skills.
  • Hold a full UK driving licence.
  • Share our commitment to safeguarding and to providing an outstanding environment for young people.

Why Join STFS?

  • A modern, purpose-built school with excellent facilities.
  • A friendly, supportive and ambitious staff team.
  • A varied role with real responsibility and autonomy.
  • Ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
  • The opportunity to make a visible difference to the daily life of the school.

The students at STFS benefit from highly qualified and committed staff who understand the various challenges that young people face. The smaller class sizes and relationships that are deep rooted in mutual respect mean that students at STFS are more than a statistic. They feel valued and are keen to learn.
