Site Manager job summary

Victoria Road Primary School is seeking a committed and experienced Site Manager to ensure the school premises are safe, secure, clean and well maintained, supporting a positive learning environment for all pupils and staff.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong practical skills, an eye for detail, and a passion for high standards in site management and health and safety.

As Site Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the school site, buildings and grounds. You will play a key role in maintaining health and safety standards, managing contractors, overseeing cleaning staff, and ensuring compliance with statutory regulations.

The Site Manager will:

  • Manage site security, including unlocking/locking the premises and managing access.
  • Supervise external contractors and cleaning staff.
  • Carry out and oversee maintenance tasks and minor repairs.
  • Monitor and maintain heating, lighting, and alarm systems.
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, including COSHH.
  • Keeping accurate records and using facilities management systems.
  • Order and manage cleaning materials and site supplies.
  • Support the school in emergency situations and occasional out-of-hours call-outs.

The Site Manager Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Experience working on a school site or similar environment.
  • Knowledge of health and safety requirements including COSHH and manual handling.
  • Ability to use tools and equipment for a variety of maintenance tasks.
  • Experience managing contractors and cleaning teams.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
  • Confident with IT systems, including email and facilities management software.
  • Physically fit, with the ability to carry out manual tasks and heavy lifting when required.

Desirable Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a primary school or within a multi-academy trust.
  • IOSH qualification or similar health and safety certification.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Relevant practical skills qualification (e.g. City & Guilds in carpentry, joinery).
  • First Aid certification.
  • Awareness of asbestos regulations and Legionella prevention methods.
