LEO Academy Trust is seeking to appoint a Site Supervisor of the highest quality to work at West Ashtead Primary Academy, maintaining and developing a truly fantastic school. The successful candidate will be responsible for the operation and implementation of procedures relating to buildings and grounds maintenance, the cleanliness and upkeep of the site and areas of health and safety. Training will be provided.

A successful candidate will be able to demonstrate relevant experience, knowledge and skills associated with the areas identified in the job description and person specification.

About the Role:

In this full-time, permanent position, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation and safety of our school site. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing the cleanliness and security of the school buildings and grounds
  • Carrying out routine maintenance tasks and minor repairs
  • Liaising with contractors and managing external works
  • Fire safety checks and ensuring adherence to health and safety regulations
  • Providing a welcoming and helpful presence for staff, pupils, and visitors
  • Supporting with setting up and taking down for school events
  • You will be flexible in meeting the schools’ needs and able to manage your own work and time effectively.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a ‘can-do’ attitude and a willingness to get stuck in
  • Possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Is a strong team player with a focus on problem-solving
  • Has a good eye for detail and takes pride in a high standard of work
  • Holds a valid DBS certificate (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Ideally has experience in a similar role or within a school environment

You will have:

  • GNVQ level 2 or equivalent in a relevant subject or be able to demonstrate competency to an equivalent to level
  • A building related qualification or willing to undertake one or be able to demonstrate competency to an equivalent standard eg basic plumbing, carpentry, decorating
  • D1 Driving licence or Category B for at least two years
  • Significant relevant experience, including site management
  • Ability to understand and apply regulations such as health & safety, manual handling, COSHH, Legionella,etc
  • Previous experience of working within a school (or related) environment.
  • Experience of, and ability to, undertake minor maintenance work and repairs.
  • Knowledge of how to meet service users' needs through effective facilities management, including:
    • site safety & security
    • ordering, controlling, receiving and delivering goods and services efficiently
    • recommending and undertaking routine repair and maintenance work including minor repairs and redecoration and to perform tasks included in the job description
    • monitor, record and operate all services (e.g. gas, electricity, fire alarm etc.) to ensure efficiency and avoid wastage
  • Knowledge and experience of general building maintenance e.g. boiler maintenance.
  • Good working knowledge of health and safety and building regulations and ability to/experience of carrying out risk assessments.
  • A good working knowledge of security practices.
  • An understanding of relevant policies/codes of practice and awareness of relevant legislation (or a willingness to learn these).
  • Knowledge of child protection and health and safety procedures.
  • Ability to contribute to the general maintenance and operation of the site.
  • Ability to self-evaluate learning needs and actively seek learning opportunities.
  • Ability to relate well to children and adults; demonstrating an understanding of children.
  • Ability to work constructively as part of a team, understanding roles and responsibilities and your own position within these.
  • Ability to comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality, data protection and equal opportunities
  • Ability to demonstrate an organised and flexible approach to work.Manage own time effectively and demonstrate initiative including establishing priorities
  • Ability to perform the physical tasks required by the post including lifting, carrying and pushing various equipment to undertake the duties of the post
  • Good numeracy and Literacy and IT Skills
  • Ability to be flexible including occasional work outside normal hours and able to respond to emergency work situations at short notice.
  • An understanding of, and commitment to, Equal Opportunities, and the ability to apply this to strategic work and day-to-day situations.
  • Willingness to undertake necessary training e.g. Health & Safety (e.g. COSHH & Fire Safety etc.)
