What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking to appoint a reliable and committed individual who can provide care, guidance, support & promote physical activity by delivering a programme of sports activity for our children during the lunch break in the role of lunchtime School Meals Supervisor Assistant.

  • Basic numeracy and literacy skills, with a strong ability to communicate clearly and work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Experience in supervising pupils within a school setting is essential (or desirable) along with familiarity with health and safety policies.
  • Physical capability to handle the demands of the role, including bending, lifting, stretching, and working in various weather conditions.
  • Basic knowledge of First Aid or an existing First Aid qualification.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, data protection, and the overall welfare of pupils, including obtaining an enhanced DBS check prior to appointment.
  • A positive, approachable, and empathetic attitude, with the willingness to undertake any necessary training to support the role.

Your Role in Building Brighter Futures

As a SMSA at St John’s Church of England Primary School , you will play a key role in contributing to the delivery of Futura’s mission statement of “Building the brightest future for all, enabling every individual to flourish”. We are looking for an individual who is passionate about living our values and making a positive impact on all the young people in our Trust.

St John’s Church of England Primary School is a highly oversubscribed/very popular single form entry school providing education to pupils aged from four to eleven.

As SMSA, you will be responsible to:

  • Supervise pupils during the midday break in designated areas (e.g., playground, dining areas, offsite spaces), ensuring their safety, welfare, and good behavior.
  • Monitor and manage pupil conduct by enforcing school policies, promptly addressing conflicts or incidents, and encouraging responsible behavior.
  • Provide immediate support for sickness or accidents by administering minor first aid and facilitating safe movement to and from dining areas.
  • Assist school and catering staff with general duties such as cleaning, table clearing, and setting up or removing furniture and play equipment.
  • Document and report incidents or behavioral concerns to the school leadership team, supporting reviews and maintaining accurate records.
  • Contribute to promoting a healthy school environment, emphasizing healthy eating and proper hygiene practices (e.g., handwashing).
