Stephenson Academy is seeking to appoint a dedicated and experienced Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo) to join our team in a specialist setting committed to ensuring every pupil can achieve and thrive.
Our school supports pupils with a range of complex needs including [e.g. autism, moderate learning difficulties, SEMH, communication needs.] The successful candidate will play a key role in leading high-quality SEND provision, ensuring that every pupil receives personalised support to access learning, develop independence and achieve positive outcomes.
As SENDCo, you will lead the strategic development of SEND provision across the school, oversee the implementation and review of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), and work closely with staff, families and external professionals to ensure effective multi-agency support. You will also support teachers in delivering adaptive teaching and ensure that SEND provision aligns with the expectations of the SEND Code of Practice, the Ofsted Education Inspection Framework, and the national vision outlined in the Every Child Achieving and Thriving schools white paper.
We are looking for a passionate and knowledgeable professional who:
- Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Has experience working with pupils with SEND, ideally in a specialist or inclusive setting
- Holds the National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCo) or NPQSEND is willing to complete it
- Demonstrates strong leadership, communication and organisational skills
- Is committed to inclusive education and improving outcomes for pupils with complex needs

Stephenson Academy is a successful 80 place special school, which opened in 2012. It has a main site, which caters for 11-16 year olds. We have an associated independent sixth form provision for 16-19 year olds.
As a specialist academy we cater for students who have Education and Health Care Plans with an identified primary need of Social Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties (SEMH), many with associated challenging behaviour. Many of our students have additional special educational needs such as speech, language and communication difficulties, Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and mental health difficulties
