What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking for a teacher to join an experienced and enthusiastic team of staff supporting a small group of KS3 and 4 students with complex educational needs working within NC year 1.

This role includes:

  • Planning, teaching and assessing learning in an imaginative curriculum
  • Working with a support team of knowledgeable and committed colleagues
  • Enhancing pupils’ communication skills
  • Promoting pupils’ self-esteem, independence and participation within the school and local community

St John’s is a specialist residential and day school for students up to 19 years old with a range of special needs including hearing impairment, autism, language impairments and learning difficulties. We have a strong focus on developing spoken and written communication skills and signing is not used to deliver the curriculum.

The school prioritises mental health and wellbeing and we have been particularly successful reintegrating pupils who have been out of education for some time.
