Special Educational Needs & Disability Co-ordinator (SENDCo) job summary
The Role
- An enthusiastic, well-qualified SENDCo to lead a large, dynamic and energetic department which has a very high reputation and thrives on continual development of its teaching and learning processes. Outcomes for SEN pupils are very strong and provision is carefully designed for our EHCP students (about 60 on roll), of which most require support with ASD.
- Lead and manage the School’s vision for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities in accordance with the 2015 SEND Code of Practice: 0-25 years.
- Oversee the strategic development of the school's Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) provision and oversight of the day-to-day operation of that policy with the aim of raising SEND pupil achievement.
- Develop and improve the teaching and learning for pupils with SEND throughout the School.
- Ensure SEND provision is both efficiently and effectively managed with support from the Learning Support team.
The Ideal Candidate
- Qualified Teacher Status.
- National SENCO award, or willingness to complete within two years of appointment.
- Postgraduate qualification at, or equivalent to, Level 7 - competent to carry out access arrangements and/or teach those with SpLD up to and including those of 18 years of age, or willingness to undertake training.
- Experience of supporting young people with Special Educational Needs.
