Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant job summary
We are seeking a caring, patient committed and enthusiastic person to join us at Brook Field School. We are offering a fixed term contract until 31 August 2026. The post will initially be for 15 hours per week, spread across 5 days. There may be the potential for increasing this up to a maximum of 25 hours per week depending on operational requirements.
We are a warm, friendly and welcoming school where everything we do is informed by the needs of the individual child.
The ideal candidate will be committed to working with children who need additional help in the classroom, on the playground and around school whilst further developing their skills. The position involves working alongside the class teacher and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator to support a child with cognition, learning, communication and interaction needs. An Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) is in place.
Good communication skills and the ability to use positive behaviour management strategies are essential. An understanding of intensive interaction (engaging with the child while playing and modelling how to play and interact with peers) is desirable but not essential.
You will need to be able to plan, deliver and monitor learning to meet the needs of the child’s EHCP as well as adapting materials to support the child’s learning and development. You will also need the following attributes:
A variety of communication skills to respond to the needs of the child
An ability to build positive working relationships with parents and carers
Empathy and understanding of a child’s individual learning abilities
Patience and a good sense of humour
Willingness to liaise and work with outside agencies such as Speech and Language therapists.
