What skills and experience we're looking for

We are delighted to appoint an exceptional candidate to the role of Specialist Base HLTA at Exmouth Community College.

Our Specialist Base at ECC will support students with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), where the primary areas of need are Communication and Interaction, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH). This full-time provision will serve up to 20 students within a dedicated, thoughtfully designed space, tailored to meet a wide range of individual needs. At its heart is a clear ambition: to empower every learner to develop the independence and confidence required to access the wider opportunities of school life.

This role extends beyond the base itself. We are seeking a professional who is passionate about sharing their expertise across the whole school community, supporting students with similar needs to those in the base, and helping to build inclusive practice at every level.

We see our Base model as more than a provision—it represents the beginning of a wider, locality-based approach to education. By offering high-quality specialist support within students’ own communities, we aim to reduce the need for long-distance travel and ensure that more young people can thrive in a familiar, inclusive environment.

Enable the Trust to realise its mission to ‘Transform lives, strengthen communities and make the world a better place by supporting and assisting students in early years to learn and flourish.

Exmouth Community College is one of the largest secondary schools in the country with over 2,200 students currently enrolled (over 300 of these in Post 16). The College, which converted to Academy status in April 2011, is set in a leafy split-site location. Our catchment area extends northwards towards Exeter city and eastwards to include Budleigh Salterton and many attractive rural villages. The College embraces working as part of the community and has strong local partnerships.

Our mission is to provide a well-structured, enjoyable, and positive approach to learning that rewards student success and allows for individual aptitudes to flourish. We pride ourselves on being an inclusive College that caters to all abilities.

Our College provides a safe, secure, and non-threatening environment in which students can develop consideration for others, self-discipline and positive relationships. We strive to offer an education that prepares students for their future.

The Exmouth Community College Trust is overseen by the Governing Board who are committed to delivering the best comprehensive education for the young people of Exmouth and the surrounding villages.

We put the development of staff at the centre of our philosophy, including a unique Assistant Headteacher role with responsibility for our staff and their development. We take it really seriously, and very much subscribe to Richard Branson's mantra to develop our staff well enough so they can leave but treat them well enough so they don't want to.

There is a really strong sense of community at ECC. Through us all working together as staff, families and governors, and pulling together as one community, we will continue the great work to build a College that caters brilliantly for its community and prepares our young people for their future.

Exmouth Community College is a fully comprehensive academy committed to giving the best education and opportunities to all of our students. We invite you to explore our website to find out more about our College.
