Fern House School is a specialist school for pupils aged 5-16. We promote and adopt approaches rooted in attachment theory and neurobiological research to provide our pupils with a supportive framework, which allows them to feel safely heard and understood. Our highly adapted, creative curriculum ensures all pupils can engage in learning and achieve success. We are seeking an enthusiastic, hard-working Specialist SEND Teaching Assistant who is open to learning a modern approach to understanding pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The successful post holder will be an integral part of the SEND team, working closely with the SENDCo and teaching staff to deliver targeted support, which involves supporting pupils to make progress and achieve the outcomes detailed in their Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), as well as providing direct support to promote pupil wellbeing and assisting pupils in overcoming barriers to learning. At Fern House School, our pupils benefit from a creative curriculum, taught by trusted staff who are flexible in their approach and offer integrated sensory breaks when required. We maintain a shared, consistent and fair whole school approach to behaviour management that is clear and easy to follow.
At Fern House School we understand the importance of building meaningful relationships with pupils and families to nurture growth and development of relational milestones such as, building trust and sharing enjoyment. Care and making connections are at the heart of our ethos and we work hard to ensure that all staff feel cared for too.
Staff well-being is a school priority, and we ensure that all staff are given dedicated opportunities to reflect and share information with their team. All staff are given access to Perkbox - an app that provides discounts on many high street chains. We also provide our staff with attendance incentives and the opportunity to join a cycle to work scheme.
We are strongly committed to providing high-quality professional development and career progression for all staff as part of the Connect Education Trust. We constantly review our practices to ensure our staff can focus on what matters most: creating a rich learning environment where children can thrive. We offer significant opportunities to collaborate with colleagues both within Fern House School and across the wider Trust. At Fern House School, we encourage expertise by enabling staff to get involved in curriculum developments in areas that genuinely interest them. We foster a supportive atmosphere where staff develop their own practice by working together to create remarkable futures for all pupils.
