Specialist Teacher and Assessor (SEND) job summary

Situated close to the centre of Cambridge, Long Road is a popular and successful Sixth Form College with over 2,600 16-19 year old full time students. All our staff share a passion for teaching and learning and are encouraged to support each other and to recognise each other’s strengths. We are committed to enhancing the individual skills and knowledge of all our staff, to enable them to work positively with our students and our community partners.

We are looking for a dynamic and inspirational Specialist Teacher to join a small team in assisting the Head of Additional Learning Support in delivering the provision for students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) within the College. You will have specific responsibility for a caseload of students with high needs and assist in the wider access process by carrying out annual reviews for EHCPs and assessments for exam arrangements. You will help students with a range of needs (for example Autism, ADHD, Specific Learning Difficulties, Sensory and Physical disabilities) to maximise their potential as learners by developing bespoke learning schedules. You will deliver 1:1 and small group sessions aimed at equipping students with the skills they need and reducing their learning and personal barriers to success. In addition, you will provide lessons in study skills, social and emotional and life skills.

The ideal candidate will hold an appropriate qualification, as outlined by the Joint Council for Qualifications, to conduct access arrangement assessments or be willing to work towards this.
