What skills and experience we're looking for
We are looking for an outstanding individual who is enthusiastic, dynamic and inspirational to join our Inclusion team as a Specialist Teaching Assistant, with a specialism in Maths or English and an interest to take the lead in Emotional Literacy (ELSA). As a Specialist Teaching Assistant you will be required to work closely with members of our Inclusion team and will have the energy and creativity to develop and inspire students learning, life skills and personalised outcomes. Candidates should have experience of working in a primary or secondary setting and have the experience to plan and deliver interventions linked to the broad SEND areas of need, with a particular focus on Cognition and Learning, and SEMH. Candidates will need to be able to demonstrateknowledge and experience of the needs of students with learning difficultiesand/or disabilities and the SEND Code of Practice.
A key focus will be to support student provision and increase students' ability to access all areas of the curriculum and school life. As part of the role you will possess the skills to embed and develop Maths and English, working proactively with other members of the Inclusion team to improve attainment, by adopting a personalised approach towards planning and delivery of a bespoke curriculum.
The successful candidate will work to support students in all necessary provisions. A key focus will be to increase students' ability to access all areas of the curriculum. Examples of the work the successful candidate will be expected to deliver are to:
- Take responsibility for a caseload of students inside and outside of the classroom during structured or unstructured time.
- Assess the needs of students and use detailed knowledge and specialist skills to support students’ educational progress and attainment and prepare them for adulthood.
- Deliver intervention programs to individuals and small groups, preparing relevant and appropriate learning experiences in conjunction with the department staff. A key focus of this work will be around emotional literacy and social skills.
- Track and monitor student life skill targets and/or EHCP outcomes, discussing progress with parents and agreeing new targets/EHCP outcomes at Interim Reviews.
