Job Title: Specific 1:1 SEN Learning Support Assistant (LSA)

Salary : £14,267 - £14,525 pro rata per annum (FTE £24,510)

Hours: Term-time only (38 weeks), 25 hours per week, 09:30-15:00 (includes a 30‑minute unpaid break). Start and finish times can be flexible if required.

Overview

We are seeking to appoint a Specific 1:1 SEN Learning Support Assistant to support a child with special educational needs within a classroom setting. The successful candidate will be passionate about supporting pupils with additional needs, flexible in their approach, and able to work effectively as part of a team. You will deliver a bespoke curriculum for the child, with guidance and support from the class teacher and SENDCo.

The Role (Purpose)

Provide 1:1 support for a pupil with special educational needs

Support the pupil— and others where appropriate— with their daily routine, learning, emotional regulation, behaviour, social interactions, and self‑care.

Build supportive, caring, secure, and trusting relationships with the pupil.

Under the guidance of the class teacher/SENDCo, implement appropriate programmes to support children with Special Educational Needs.

Promote pupil engagement and independence.

Work with external professionals to plan and deliver provision for pupils with high levels of need.

Communicate effectively with parents and carers.

Carry out personal care duties if required.

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver personalised support inside and outside the classroom.

Support the pupil with learning, routines, social development, behaviour, and self-care.

Record, report, and monitor behaviour and learning progress.

Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENDCo, and external specialists.

Adhere to safeguarding (KCSIE), health and safety, and school policies.

Person Specification (Requirements):

Essential

GCSE English and Maths at grade C/4 or above.

Previous experience working with children.

Ability to work on your own initiative.

Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with children and adults.

Ability to use relevant technology/equipment.

A positive, flexible, team‑focused attitude.

A DBS on the update service or willingness to complete a new one.

Desirable / Highly Desirable

Experience working with children with Special Educational Needs.

Level 3 Teaching Assistant / Early Years Practitioner qualification.

Recent school‑based references (within the last 2 years).
