About the Role

  • Coach PE to children aged 3-11 each week, providing PPA cover for teachers across the school.

  • Coach children in timetabled lunchtime and after-school clubs.

  • Work alongside our School PE Lead to:

    • Plan and deliver competitions.

    • Welcome visiting coaches across a wide range of sports.

    • Lead school sports opportunities in collaboration with other schools.

    As this is a teaching-focused role, it carries a Grade 5 TA salary. We welcome applicants with relevant experience and qualifications who are excited by this unique opportunity.

    • Provide cover for teaching staff, including leading classes, PPA cover.
    • Plan, prepare, and deliver PE sessions using School scheme.
    • Assess and report on pupil progress in PE.
    • Build positive relationships with pupils to support their learning, wellbeing, and personal development.
    • Work collaboratively with class teachers, support staff, and families to create a nurturing and inclusive environment.
    • Maintain confidentiality, uphold safeguarding procedures, and model the school’s values in all interactions.

    We Are Looking For

    Job Purpose:

    To deliver the National Curriculum PE Curriculum as appropriate.

    To manage, organise and lead a wide range of sporting clubs and events in collaboration with PE Leaders and Headteacher. To monitor and support the overall progress and development of children before, during and after school hours. To offer a safe and caring environment.

    To work in partnership with pupils, parents, governors, other staff and external agencies.

    To have due regard for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and to follow the Local Safeguarding Board child protection procedures and the school’s safeguarding policy.

    Main Duties

    1) The PE coach is to deliver a PE curriculum and extra-curricular sports clubs which:

    offers all pupils equality of opportunity in line with the policies of the school

    ensures continuity and progression as the children move through Key Stage 2

    2) The PE coach needs to build positive relationship with the children in their care to:

    plan lessons, teach and assess pupils in all subjects/developmental areas

    use observations and assessment to both monitor progress and to inform planning and teaching

    provide oral and written feedback to pupils on the processes and outcomes of their learning

    identify and respond appropriately to relevant individual differences between pupils

    organise and run a range of extra - curricular sporting clubs

    3) The PE coach is to use a wide range of teaching strategies to:

    support pupils development and be aware of the various factors which may affect the learning process

    set appropriate and challenging expectations of pupils

    establish clear expectations of pupil behaviour

    present learning tasks in a clear and stimulating manner

    - communicate clearly and effectively with pupils through questioning, instructing, explaining and feedback

    manage effectively and economically their own and their pupils’ time

    support pupils in developing individual and collaborative study skills necessary for effective learning

    ensure pupils are offered equality of opportunity

    Grade 5:

    • A highly skilled and confident practitioner, ideally with Coaching and or Teaching qualifications.
    • Someone with experience delivering whole-class teaching, including for PPA and short-term cover.
    • A professional who can plan and assess effectively.
    • A positive role model with the ability to direct other support staff effectively.
    • A strong communicator who collaborates effectively with teaching teams, parents, and external professionals.
    • A committed, resilient individual who values inclusion, upholds safeguarding duties, and contributes to the wider school life.
