Sports, Health and Wellbeing Lead job summary

Do you have experience of coaching or teaching children, and have a passion for educating them about the benefits of positive physical and mental wellbeing? This engaging and fast-paced role includes teaching the full extent of the Primary PE National Curriculum, leading on parts of the PHSE curriculum linked to health and wellbeing, and championing wellbeing for colleagues. The role would be ideal for someone who is either an aspirant teacher or someone who would enjoy leading groups of pupils without the full responsibilities of a teacher.

Nigel Bowes Academy is an Outstanding primary school for children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. By providing a calm and learning-focused environment, our pupils flourish and achieve, leading to accelerated outcomes in all areas of their development. Our school has a community feel and we take the time to ensure we are always striving to achieve the best.

The role primarily involves planning and leading timetabled PE lessons, where the successful candidate will be expected to monitor the progress of pupils and report this to our Teaching and Learning Lead. There will also be opportunities to teach parts of the PHSE curriculum, through a flexible and pupil-centred approach, along with supporting pupils in class and offering targeted support for individual pupils. The successful candidate will have a flexible approach, have knowledge and experience of working with children in KS1-2 who have social, emotional and mental health difficulties through CPD training. The post requires someone who is highly resilient, able to work well as a member of a successful team and highly developed interpersonal skills and a good sense of humour.

What We have to Offer:

  • A visible and approachable senior leadership team and an enthusiastic and committed team of teachers and support staff.
  • A strong support network both within the school and across Authentic Education.
  • All staff are part of a professional learning community in which evidence-informed CPD is designed to meet individual needs.
  • Strong potential for career progression.
  • A culture that respects work-life balance and an ongoing commitment to wellbeing with a dedicated Wellbeing Champion.
  • An Employee Assistance Programme including in the moment support and counselling sessions with an external provider.
  • Staff benefits include free eye testing for DSE users through Specsavers, free will writing through Dunham McCarthy Solicitors and reduced price corporate gym membership through BH Live.
  • A competitive pension through Teachers’ Pensions or The Local Government Pension Scheme for support staff.
