Hours: 32 hours per week – Term time only
Aurora Hedgeway is a dynamic and inspiring provision for children and young people aged 7-19 with a primary or secondary diagnosis of Autism and related social and communication needs.
We are currently looking for a Sports Tutor. The school supports young people aged 7 - 19 with a primary or secondary diagnosis of Autism and related social and communication needs.
We offer life skills and a wide range of GCSE/ Functional Skills/BTEC accreditations alongside a functional skills/entry level pathway. Behaviours across the school are excellent.
The role:
As a Sports Tutor, you will lead the planning and delivery of engaging sports and fitness lessons across all classes, helping students develop key physical skills and encouraging a lifelong commitment to healthy living. You’ll set clear development targets, monitor progress, and tailor your approach to meet individual needs, ensuring every student can thrive through physical activity.
Working closely with the Therapy and education team, you’ll support the development of proprioception and extend physical activity opportunities for pupils who need additional support. You’ll also provide both universal and targeted interventions, collaborating with teachers to embed a strong culture of fitness and wellbeing that reflects the vision and values of The Aurora Group.
Key Duties:
Support learners in setting and achieving targets in their individual learning programmes
Lead weekly Sports sessions, to include scheme of work, weekly lessons and evaluation plans and end-of-term reports.
Lead on extra-curricular sports clubs within lunch time and offsite sporting events.
Deliver a varied programme of sports activities including sessions onsite and at local sports facilities such as local Leisure Centres
Be responsible for classroom management (of learners and support staff) within your lessons.
Identify, report and record any safeguarding concerns in line with KCSIE and Aurora’s Child Protection and Vulnerable Adult policies
Accompany learners to off-site activities, facilitating ease of travel
Assist the Deputy Headteacher – Curriculum and Assessment, and Class Teachers with monitoring and tracing students’ progress by taking part in assessment and recording of data.
Skills and Qualifications
Experience & Qualifications:
Relevant professional or vocational qualification or substantial experience of working with children and young adults (7-19) with additional needs.
Experience of teaching or training Sports and fitness lessons within an education system.
Ability to work as part of a team, with effective leadership skills to support a direct staff within your sessions.
Experience of working with diverse cultures and of addressing the needs of different sectors of the community.
The ability to work flexibly under pressure.
