Nelson Academy has a unique opportunity for an excellent teacher to work alongside our specialist team within the Autism Specialist Resource Base (SRB).

Role Purpose

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced SEND teacher to lead our KS1 and KS2 specialist provision. You will be joining a vibrant and inclusive primary academy and playing a role in its success and the ongoing development of our SRB. Vital to this success is the meaningful inclusion and integration of our pupils within their year group classrooms, in addition to delivering a specialist package of provision to meet their holistic needs. This will require in depth, individualised pupil-centred planning, delivery, monitoring and feedback to ensure that we uphold high expectations for all pupils to make progress. You will work closely with the specialist team and the mainstream class teams, in order to ensure best practice and consistency of provision for our pupils across the academy.

In addition to working with colleagues, you will work closely with families, building positive trusting relationships with them and their children. You will also collaborate with external professionals and agencies, to ensure best outcomes for our pupils.

Nelson Academy is a ‘good’ school and very much a part of the local community in Downham Market. Being part of Eastern Multi Academy Trust helps us to build upon this by making links with other academies within the Trust. Education is an ever evolving area, often throwing up challenges which we believe should be seen as opportunities. At Nelson Academy, we want to work in partnership with children and their families to ensure that every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

We are the foundation of a learning journey which will last far beyond each child’s time with us. At Nelson Academy, we will endeavour to work hard to ensure that every child receives the very best educational experience and, in return, we expect the best from our children and our staff team.

We are looking for a teacher who:

Has experience and a passion for working with neurodivergent pupils.

Is committed to contributing to the development of our SRB.

Has knowledge of autism and the related strengths and differences.

Will plan, implement, deliver and assess a broad, balanced and inclusive curriculum for pupils and support a designated curriculum area.

Demonstrate a clear understanding of what constitutes outstanding teaching and learning.

Will ensure that the provision outlined in EHCPs and Individual Learning Plans are consistently provided within the SRB and mainstream environments.

Will support pupils to integrate into their year group classrooms, including for school events and trips.

Shows commitment to ensuring quality of opportunity for all learners.

Is reflective, open to feedback and driven to be outstanding.

Will play a full part in the life of Nelson Academy’s community and support the ethos, aims and vision of the academy and encourage others to follow this example.

Is a dedicated team player, demonstrating consistent resilience and positivity.

Will work collaboratively with colleagues across the academy to ensure provision for SRB pupils is consistent within the SRB and year group classrooms.

Demonstrates optimism about children and expects the highest possible standards.

Will work collaboratively with families to build trusting home/school relationships.

Will work in partnership with professionals from Norfolk County Council and external agencies.
