We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Student Support Officer to join the team supporting students at Hampton Gardens School on a permanent basis.
This is a rewarding and varied role where you’ll play an active part in the pastoral life of the school, supporting Heads of Year and the Senior Leadership Team in delivering robust pastoral care and implementing behaviour management systems. Every member of our team helps to make a difference—supporting students to enjoy their time at school and contributing to raising standards of achievement for all.
As Student Support Officer, you will take on a key safeguarding responsibility as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, managing the Early Help Assessment (EHA) process and leading on child protection concerns. You’ll work closely with external agencies and represent the school in meetings with parents, carers, and professionals.
You’ll also take a lead role in managing student attendance and contribute to the smooth running of the pastoral team. This role requires excellent communication, organisation, and administrative skills, along with a proactive and compassionate approach to supporting young people.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Supporting Heads of Year with behaviour management and wellbeing interventions.
- Acting as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead and managing the EHA process.
- Leading on child protection concerns and liaising with external agencies.
- Coordinating student attendance monitoring and follow-up.
- Facilitating small group work and external agency sessions.
- Providing administrative support for pastoral and safeguarding processes.
- Supporting internal exclusion procedures and helping students reintegrate.
- Organising reward events and student panel discussions for recruitment.
- Undertaking First Aid duties and monitoring related records.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who is:
- Experienced in safeguarding and working with young people in a school setting.
- Organised, empathetic, and able to manage a busy and varied workload.
- Skilled in communication and confident working with students, staff, and families.
- Proficient in administration and ICT (Word, Excel, email systems).
- Knowledgeable about child development, safeguarding, and barriers to learning.
- A qualified First Aider or willing to undertake training.
- Flexible, resilient, and committed to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
Working Hours
- 32.5 hours per week, term time plus additional 5 days, to include staff training days (195 days per year).
- 8.15am to 3.30pm, Monday to Friday, with a 45-minute unpaid lunch break.
There may be an opportunity to undertake a paid Midday Supervision position alongside this role. If so, start and finish times may be adjusted accordingly and would be agreed in discussion with the successful candidate.
Salary:
(Grade 8)
- Full-time salary (52 weeks / 37 hours) From: £32,061 to £35,412.
- Actual salary (195 days / 32.5 hours) From: £24,114 to £26,635.

Hampton Gardens is an 11-19 free school which opened in September 2017 to an initial intake of 180 Year 7 students. When full, the school will accommodate 1200 students in years 7-11 and 300 students in Sixth Form.
Hampton Gardens is part of the Hampton Academies Trust who also run the highly successful and popular Hampton College all-through school, Hampton Lakes Primary School and Dogsthorpe Infant School. HAT schools have very close links and some shared staff.
