Student Support Worker job summary
‘Reducing barriers to expand horizons’
At Woodeaton Manor School, we believe that behaviour is communication and that every young person deserves to feel understood, nurtured, and supported to succeed.
We are seeking a compassionate, proactive and highly relational Student Support Worker to join our Student Support Hubs. This role is at the heart of our pastoral provision and is ideal for someone who thrives in dynamic environments, builds strong relationships with pupils, and can respond calmly and consistently when young people need support most.
You will work directly with students who may experience emotional dysregulation or crisis, offering support both on-call and through ad hoc and planned interventions.
You will also deliver regular student support sessions, model restorative practice, and champion our values to help our pupils UNPACK their potential through our newly created school values:
Understanding • Nurture • Positivity • Aspirations • Consistency • Kindness
This is not a passive role. You will actively support pupils to regulate, reflect, repair and re‑engage with learning, while modelling the values‑driven, restorative practice that defines our school culture.
If you believe in relationships before rules, are confident supporting pupils when things go wrong, and want to make a real difference every day, we would love to hear from you.
What we Offer
- Competitive salary
- Full induction programme and ongoing SEMH and trauma informed training
- Paid wellbeing days, free flu vaccinations and on-site parking
- Cycle to Work Scheme
- Local Government Pension (LGPS)
- Employee assistance programme
- Refer-a-friend scheme (earn up to £500)
- Supportive, highly skilled staff team and therapeutic school culture
About the Role
- Provide responsive, on-call pastoral support, helping students regulate, de-escalate, and re-engage with learning
- Deliver 1:1 and small group interventions focused on emotional wellbeing, social skills, and personal development
- Champion a values-driven, restorative approach, modelling positive behaviour and supporting reflection and repair
- Build strong, trusting relationships with students and collaborate with staff to deliver consistent support
- Maintain safeguarding standards, accurate records, and contribute to student support planning and progress tracking
About you
- GCSE English and maths (Grade 4/C or equivalent)
- Experience supporting children or young people (school, care, youth work etc.)
- Calm, patient, emotionally resilient and able to be a consistent, positive role model.
- A strong team player with excellent communication skills
- Experience with SEMH or secondary-aged pupils (desirable but not essential)
