Subject Lead in Business and Economics job summary

We are looking for an excellent subject lead in Business and Economics to join our team at Malcolm Arnold Academy.

You will

  • Lead and develop the teaching practice of others in Business & Economics across the Academy.
  • Develop teaching so that all students achieve their individual potential.
  • Monitor the progress of all students within the subject area against their targets.
  • Raise standards of student attainment and achievement in Business & Economics.
  • Drive the continuous and consistent Trust-wide focus on raising achievement and improving student outcomes.
  • Organise intervention support in the Business & Economics department.
  • Ensure that all students can access a richer curriculum in Business & Economics through extra-curricular activities.
  • Help raise the aspirations of students in Business & Economics and in the Academy.  
  • Ensure that ICT, Literacy, Numeracy, and subject specialism(s) are reflected in the teaching/learning experience of students.   
  • Adapt practice to meet the needs of all students in your classroom, including SEND, disadvantaged and EAL.
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with the school’s procedures and to encourage good practice regarding punctuality, behaviour, standards of work and homework.

    • Proven success in teaching Economics and Business Studies up to and including A Level standard.
    • A highly competent understanding of what makes outstanding teaching and learning and the ability to put this into practice on a day-to-day basis.
    • Qualified Teacher Status with a relevant subject degree at BA or above

    • Excellent people skills and the ability to inspire confidence, trust and respect amongst staff, students, and families.

Malcolm Arnold Academy is a co-educational secondary school based in Northampton, Northamptonshire, for students aged 11-18.

The school takes its name from the legendary composer Sir Malcolm Arnold. Born in Northampton in 1921, he was one of the leading figures in 20th-century classical music and helped to establish the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.
