We are seeking an inspiring Subject Leader for Drama to join our committed English Faculty. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate practitioner to lead Drama across the Academy, raise standards, and provide exceptional learning experiences for all students.

About the Role

The successful candidate will champion high‑quality teaching and learning in Drama, support curriculum development, and contribute to the wider vision and success of the English team. Working closely with the Faculty Leader, you will develop colleagues, enrich the curriculum, and use assessment effectively to secure strong progress at KS3 and KS4.

Person Specification

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is a well‑qualified Drama teacher with an excellent teaching record and strong KS4 experience.
  • Has the qualifications and experience required to lead a motivated, ambitious subject team.
  • Understands the role of Drama and oracy within the wider curriculum and its impact on students’ personal development.
  • Is committed to current developments in Drama education and theatre practice.
  • Builds strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Demonstrates creativity, innovation, and a strong interest in curriculum and pedagogy.
  • Shows interest in English‑related disciplines and the cultural curriculum.
  • Brings enthusiasm, resilience, ambition, and energy.
  • Uses Technology confidently for planning, assessment, data, and teaching.

Key Responsibilities

The Subject Leader for Drama will:

  • Promote and model the Academy’s ethos and values.
  • Raise standards and the profile of Drama across the Academy.
  • Lead subject development meetings to share updates and pedagogy to the wider Drama teaching team (sitting with English).
  • Support whole‑faculty and whole‑school initiatives.
  • Identify KS4 students at risk of underachieving and support targeted intervention strategies.
  • Lead on curriculum planning, schemes of work, and subject resources.
  • Regularly review and evaluate the Drama curriculum using staff and student voice.
  • Support monitoring and evaluation of teaching and learning.
  • Coach and mentor colleagues to improve classroom practice and outcomes.
  • Contribute to staff training and the sharing of best practice.
  • Build external links to enhance CPD opportunities for Drama.
  • Organise productions, workshops, trips, and enrichment opportunities.
  • Ensure smooth transition between key stages through effective liaison.
  • Oversee consistent data collection and report findings to the Faculty Leader.
  • Lead the subject team’s reward and recognition system.
  • Support analysis of assessment data and the development of raising attainment plans.
