Subject Leader for English job summary
Fortis Trust seeks to appoint a well-qualified, enthusiastic Subject Leader for English and Media to lead the department at the Bradfields Academy site.
The successful candidate will lead an established subject that caters for all levels of SEN students offering qualifications from Entry Level to GCSE. An experience of a variety of different levels of qualification would be an advantage. Previously, when the right cohort has presented themselves, the department has offered A-Level English.
The current Subject Leader is moving to a different role in the academy. During their time in post, they have taken a strong department and developed it further, in particular placing a greater emphasis on reading, for both students and staff! The successful candidate will have the ability to maintain these high standards and drive forward their own unique ideas in developing the provision further.
The academy is an all-through provision and whilst there are specialists that teach in the primary and more complex provisions, subject leaders are expected to have an active input into their subject within these specialist areas. A good understanding of SEN and the potential barriers to learning and developing English skills would be an advantage.
It is important the successful candidates has good communication skills, and an understanding of how to support staff in the delivery of basic skills teaching such as phonics and reading as these are important developmental areas in all subjects.
The successful candidate will join the Middle Leadership Team and take an active role in academy development in whole site initiatives.
