What skills and experience we're looking for

An enthusiastic and committed teacher, committed to supporting disadvantaged young people to build their self-esteem through achieving accredited programmes of learning to lead PE and Sports Education at Francis Barber PRU.

This post is based across both sites of the Francis Barber PRU in central Wandsworth and in Tooting.

The successful candidate will be teaching groups of KS3 and KS4 pupils in a supportive environment and in addition will be able to access leisure centres to enhance the curriculum.

It will be important that the successful candidate is able to provide a range of PE activities to engage pupils with challenging behaviour. We currently offer the Cambridge National Award in Sports Science and the Prince’s Trust.

The successful candidate would be expected to Keywork a group of pupils taking account of their needs, as well supporting the pastoral development of all pupils at the site.

Francis Barber is a very good PRU with many outstanding features.

We have a wide variety of pupils on roll including pupils who are excluded or dual registered, those undergoing statutory assessment or have an EHCP.

Many of the pupils have faced challenges in mainstream schools. Some continue to be challenging in the PRU, but there is a strong staff team helping the young people to manage their behaviour within a supportive and caring school-like environment.

What the school offers its staff

Staff at Francis Barber are committed to creating a reflective and considerate community where pupils can learn in a safe and secure environment. We value the individual strengths which pupils and staff can equally contribute to the development of positive and co-operative relationships. Within the school there is a strong, diverse staff team including mentors, keyworkers and clinical CAMHS practitioners and a social worker, who help our young people to manage their behaviour and emotions. Staff CPD this year has focused on embedding a whole school trauma informed approach.

Francis Barber is a great place to work with a friendly staff team and fantastic transport links and shops and banks nearby. The school is very mindful of supporting staff wellbeing and there are many opportunities for CPD, mentoring and coaching. Other benefits include; access to Cyclescheme, a contribution towards the cost of eye care, season ticket loans and access to our Employee Assistance Programme.

If you have the necessary experience, qualifications and passion to make a difference to the lives of youngsters, then we will be delighted to hear from you.

Within this setting there is scope for further leadership opportunity for a highly experienced candidate.
