What skills and experience we're looking for

The Norton Knatchbull School is seeking an inspirational and dedicated Subject Leader of Geography to start in September 2025. The successful applicant will be expected to have experience of teaching Geography up to and including A Level, with a proven track record of examination success. We are looking for a leader who can inspire both colleagues and students, lead by example and ensure that Geography continues to thrive as a subject. We welcome applicants from either selective or wide ability settings, who are keen to work with high achieving and motivated students in a strong and growing department.

At The Norton Knatchbull School, Geography is a diverse and engaging subject that encourages students to become thoughtful geographers, explore global challenges, and think independently. Our department is committed to delivering a stimulating and enriching geographical experience to our students through a planned scheme of work, with the flexibility to explore contemporary geographical issues. If you have the vision, enthusiasm and expertise to lead our Geography department, we would love to hear from you.

Key Stage 4: At GCSE students take Geography and/or History with the trend being that over half of each GCSE cohort take Geography, following the AQA specification. Two field trips take place to support urban and ecosystem studies.

Key Stage 5: At A level students following the AQA specification, with numbers usually resulting in two classes. Fieldwork remains important at this level and includes visits to Margate, Stratford, Folkestone, Camber, Herne Bay, Canterbury and Wye as part of the NEA requirements.

We like to encourage pupils to take an increasing responsibility for their own learning, while at the same time providing them with a secure framework of support and encouragement so that when they leave the school they will be better prepared for higher education or further training. Over the past few years, the number of students taking A level has been consistent with good results and we have a high proportion of students who go on to higher education, many to study Geography or related disciplines
