Subject Leader of History and Politics job summary
This is an excellent opportunity to join a friendly, dynamic Ofsted rated ‘good’ school where all can thrive and staff are highly valued and developed. Our current post holder is retiring having built an incredibly successful department and we are seeking to recruit someone to develop her legacy, someone who has a passion for History, is forward thinking, innovative, creative and committed to excellence. We have done much to update the KS3 curriculum and develop a knowledge rich curriculum across the school and to develop literacy and communication skills, and our History Department has led the way. The History Department is a highly successful, cohesive and effective team who work collaboratively and supportively to ensure that our students make excellent progress and enjoy the subject. History is the most popular GCSE option and year on year, outcomes are superb, highest of the EBACC subjects and significantly higher than national standards, testament to teachers’ commitment and passion and the students’ enjoyment of the subject. Progress at GCSE is strong (ave P8 of 0.4 from 2017 to 2019) and A Level History is also popular and successful and many of our students go on to study History at University. A Level Poitics is becoming increasingly popular and we have an excellent colleague overseeing the course but it will now become part of the History and Politics faculty. The successful candidate will be responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of History and will have achieved highly successful outcomes themselves in their own teaching.
