Sandhurst School is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and well-qualified subject leader of Modern Foreign Languages, to lead in the teaching across the age and ability range of this 11 – 18 comprehensive school with over a 1,100 students on roll.
In November 2017, Ofsted reported that:

“Strong relationships exist between staff and pupils”
We are seeking a highly skilled Subject Leader to develop the department, with emphasis on raising attainment and increasing uptake of languages in KS4 and KS5. French, Spanish and French are taught in KS3 and KS4, with French being delivered to KS5.
We endeavour to make the subject interesting and accessible for all students, with a wide variety of teaching strategies and techniques used to ensure student engagement and progress. We have a range of resources available to aid in the delivery of the subject; these include subscriptions to Kerboodle and Linguascope, chrome books and an extensive range of textbooks. The department has a history of running educational visits to places like the Rhineland, Boulogne and Paris. The Department has an interest in creative enrichment and extra-curricular activities, which in the past have included cooking and art. The successful candidate will lead a fully resourced department with three of its own dedicated teaching rooms an office and resource cupboard, as well as a full set of existing teaching resources available on the school’s shared Google Drive.
Modern Foreign Language students are confident and well prepared for external examinations; they know what they need to do in order to improve. While there is consistent uptake for all three languages at KS4 and KS5, the school is committed to significantly increasing the number of students studying French, Spanish and German at this level. The successful candidate will have the exciting opportunity of steering and developing the department towards this ultimate objective
This is a great opportunity to work in a supportive school setting and alongside a dedicated team of subject leaders and senior leaders.
The successful candidate will show:
- Good leadership and management skills
- A commitment to raising student achievement
- Motivational and inspirational approaches to teaching & learning
- Good team-working skills
This vacancy offers an exciting opportunity to join a friendly, supportive, forward-thinking department with a reputation for good practice and good examination results. Visits prior to application are very much encouraged. We look forward to hearing from you and appreciate the interest you have shown in our school.
Please note: we may hold interviews as and when applications are received, and this job may be withdrawn at any point without notice. With this in mind, you are encouraged to apply as early as possible.
