What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking for a passionate Maths Tutor to join the high achieving department. The ideal candidate will be able to deliver inspiring lessons, brings knowledge and experience to the curriculum, and have a desire to teach beyond the specification, believing every student can succeed. Appreciation that the commitment to delivering outstanding educational and outcome goes beyond the classroom.

All staff within the Trust need to have a commitment to professional development, an enthusiasm for team work and a passion for improvement.

While a teaching qualification is desirable, we will consider applications from non- qualified graduates. Graduates looking to start a career in teaching at the Sixth Form College will be allocated a reduced timetable with comprehensive support and mentoring. Future opportunities to obtain a teacher qualification will be considered.

Maths department

The department currently offers A levels in Mathematics and Further Mathematics, AS level Further Mathematics and the GCSE Mathematics re-sit programme. Statistics will also be introduced in Sep 2025. There are currently over 1,400 students studying on mathematical courses, including over 350 Further Mathematics students across the two years. As one of the largest mathematical cohorts in the country, the department has led developments across the sixth form sector. In 2024 we enjoyed outstanding results including 62% A*- A at A level and 78% A*- A in Further Maths. The department is innovative, inclusive, supportive, collaborative, outstanding, and has high expectations.

Day to Day Expectations of a Teacher

A full time teacher will have 22.5 hours per week contact with students, split over 5 Teaching groups (15 periods) with 5 additional periods for preparation and marking.

On a Tuesday staff departmental meetings / all staff CPD takes place after college, finishing at 5.20pm.

Throughout the year there are a number of whole college events (open evenings, parent evenings, Interview Day, enrolment) at which attendance is required.

Common resources are shared within departments and there are regular opportunities for professional development, delivering extracurricular student clubs and wellbeing / social activities.

  • support from your curriculum manager(s) and director of faculty; and
