We are expanding our education team to support pupils with Special Needs and so we are looking to recruit a skilled Teacher with knowledge of PE and a love of the outdoors to support our pupils and strengthen the teaching team. Banks House School primarily learns outside of the classroom to give our pupils the most specialised education and life changing experiences. 

You will:

  • Be a qualified teacher eligible to work in the UK
  • Demonstrate a strong classroom practice and the ability to work confidently in a specialist SEN setting
  • Have experience of working with pupils with severe, profound and/or complex learning difficulties, including communication needs
  • Be able to contribute positively to the wider work of the school, including supporting colleagues and promoting effective practice
  • Have excellent communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with pupils, families and professionals
  • Experience in a special school or specialist provision is highly desirable.

Main purpose of the job: At Banks House School, you will meet the Teachers’ Professional Standards and fulfil the professional responsibilities expected of all classroom teachers. You will be responsible for securing strong educational progress for pupils and contributing to the development of the school as it continues to expand.

If you have a particular interest in supporting young people with Autism and other learning disabilities, we would be especially keen to hear from you. Discussions with the headteacher are encouraged.

Key responsibilities:

  • Deliver a personalised curriculum tailored to pupils’ individual needs
  • Plan, teach and review lessons that meet the learning needs of all pupils embedding outcomes in each pupils’ EHCP and advice from other professionals
  • Assess, monitor, record and report on the learning needs, progress and achievements of pupils, making accurate and productive use of assessment including contributing to the writing and reviewing of Personal Learning Plans, EHCP, PEP and CLA reviews
  • Participate in the arrangements for preparing pupils for external examinations
  • Support pupils to develop their skills of independence, resilience and communication
  • Create a positive, safe and inclusive learning environment
  • Take an active role in the day-to-day life and ongoing development of the school
  • Collaborate and work with colleagues and other relevant professionals within and beyond the school
  • Take part in the school’s appraisal and supervision procedures
  • Work effectively with internal and external professionals and agencies
  • Contribute to self-evaluation and continuous improvement

Duties: To fulfil the professional responsibilities of a teacher, meeting the expectations set out in the Teachers’ Standards. This post is suitable for ECTs.
