We currently have a unique opportunity for an enthusiastic person to join the Birch Wood team.

It is an exciting time at Birch Wood Special School, a place where the best teachers can make a huge difference to the outcomes of our students.

Birch Wood Area Special School is a dual site school with a strong vision for achieving the best outcomes possible for children with a range of special educational needs. Students range from early years to year 13 with special educational needs including; learning and cognition needs; Moderate-Severe Learning Difficulties and Profound & Multiple Learning Difficulties. Students may have a diagnosis of Autism and or ADHD.

We are a caring school community with high aspirations for all our learners with currently 225 students on roll. We provide a broad, enriched and expanding curriculum which is based on National Curriculum guidelines. Outcomes for all pupils are consistently high. Due to the range of students we work with there are always opportunities for committed teaching professionals to expand their experiences.

The successful candidate will teach students with a range of needs alongside a team of highly motivated support staff.

About You:

  • Dedicated to getting the best from young people, who at times may present as challenging and complex.
  • Have high expectations and enjoy the challenges associated with working in an environment where you can inspire young people to progress and reach their full potential
  • Committed to inclusive practice and the belief that all pupils can achieve and learn, whatever their SEND
  • May have experience and/or knowledge of working with children who have Special Educational Needs
  • Have a flexible approach to working with others whilst forming relationships with young people

All students who attend the school have a Statement of Special Educational Need. In order to address the pupils special educational needs. We provide a broad and balanced curriculum which is based on the National Curriculum and equals schemes of work.

We are an outward looking maintained school, committed to our community in Melton Mowbray and the surrounding areas in Leicestershire. Birch Wood provides a highly specialised and completely unique learning environment, which aims to meet our pupils at their point of need to enable their success. We share a culture which is ambitious without limits for our children and young people and aim to provide a high quality, relevant and balanced education that focuses on individual, personal and academic achievement.

At Birch Wood students are taught in smaller groups, with more than one member of staff in attendance so that we can nurture, challenge and inspire them through to success. We are a well-resourced school with many in house specialists including our own commissioned Speech and Language Therapist and Occupational Therapists. We also offer a range of other therapies and additional support services including Music Therapy, Rebound Therapy and School Councillor.

Grange Drive
At Grange Drive we offer a tailored curriculum that is designed to meet the individual needs of each pupil. We cater to students with a wide range of needs, including those with autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, and physical disabilities. Birch Wood Vale
Birch Wood Vale caters for students aged 11-19 with learning and cognition needs including autism. We offer a mainstream style curriculum, which is broad and balanced providing students with the opportunity to take a range of qualifications including GCSEs. More information can be found:

Ashton House
