Elmfield School for Deaf Children is a specialist setting for deaf children with an EHCP in the locality. We are a very small school (on two sites) which follows the aims and ambitions of the national curriculum, but is delivered in a highly individualised manner.
All teaching and learning sits within a sign bilingual framework. This allows all pupils to access their learning through either BSL or spoken English. This equity in language is a key principle of our school.
We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and inspirational Secondary Humanities teacher. The role responsibility will be to deliver the ASDAN curriculum to Key Stage 4 students, alongside Key Stages 3 humanities and whole school PSHE.
The successful candidate will be:
Interested in deaf education
An innovative and patient classroom teacher
Excellent at planning and differentiation skills in modifying curriculum to suit need
Motivated to work in a school with a bilingual approach
Someone who has had exposure to BSL and has deaf awareness (level 3 BSL preferable, but will consider other candidates)
We offer a supportive induction, Continuing Professional Development and the opportunity to work within a close-knit team of professionals from the hearing and deaf communities.
Applications will be considered from mainstream teachers with a keen interest in SEND/Deaf education as well as experienced Teachers of the Deaf.
Prospective applicants are encouraged to visit the school. Please contact us by telephone on 0117 9030 366, or email office@elmfieldschool.co.uk to arrange a visit.
