The Art and Design Technology department at Parkside Academy is a well-structured and exhilarating department where teamwork and creativity is at the forefront of what we do. The department aims to provide students with a broad ranging experience of creative subject areas. Students will develop an understanding of core subject principles to provide a foundation for creative thinking and the development of practical skills.

A culture of resilience, challenge and self-analysis will provide learners with the confidence to take risks and show continued pride in the work they produce. Lessons will have a ‘doing’ emphasis, allowing students to develop and refine their practical skills in safe working environments. The department includes a variety of specialisms including Art and Design, Photography, Textiles Technology, Product Design, Graphic Design and Hospitality and Catering.

The department is committed to providing students with opportunities beyond the classroom environment. Learners will experience competitions, trips, resident artist contributions, work alongside outside agencies and the local community to showcase the impact creative subjects can have within society and the professional world of work.

A specialism in Product Design is desirable for this role.
