Teacher of Art & Design job summary
We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated, engaging teacher of Art & Design to join our vibrant department. Art plays a major part in the life of the school, with exhibitions of A-level/GCSE work and annual trips to London Tate Gallery. The successful candidate will need to be an excellent teacher, with a desire and ability to teach both Fine Art GCSE and A-Level, ideally with sculpture as a specialism. They need to be willing to contribute to the extensive extra-curricular programme. The department of two is well equipped with a Kiln room and A-Level studio space, which has an installation room within it for A-Level collaborative work.
Educating 1200 students, The Bishop’s Stortford High School provides a single-sex education for boys in Years 7 to 11 and has a large, thriving co-educational sixth form, with over one hundred girls on roll. In 2019, 89% of our GCSE students achieved grade 4+ in both English and Maths, contributing to a Progress 8 score of +0.16, compared to a national average for boys of -0.28. At A-Level we had a 55% A* - B pass rate in 2019 and 66% in 2020. At GCSE we have an 85% 4+ rate in 2020 with 67% getting a grade 5 or above. We have a strong ethos, based on high expectations and standards for all, a committed and supportive staff who deliver high quality, engaging lessons and well-behaved students with excellent attitudes to learning.
