What skills and experience we're looking for
At Kingsway Park High School, our Art department is proud to offer our students a well-rounded, high quality KS3 and 4 curriculums, providing students the opportunity to experiment with a wide variety of materials and techniques. The art department is a popular department which offers AQA GCSE Art and GCSE Textiles, as well as EDEXCEL GCSE Photography at KS4. All KS3 students have one art lesson a week and then if opted for, students will have five GCSE lessons over a two-week timetable. As a faculty our aim is to provide students with a worldclass learning experience and will expect the successful candidate to embrace our schools’ values of ‘we cooperate, we pioneer and we belong’, embedding these values into lessons and into all other areas of day-to day school life.
The art department is very well resourced, having access to 3 large art classrooms, a large kiln, 40 computers all equipped with the Adobe suite and Microsoft Office, a dedicated printer, photocopier, and scanner, 20 sewing machines, a pottery wheel, 20 DSLR Canon cameras and a wide variety of traditional drawing, painting and print-making equipment. Our vision is to equip our children with the essential knowledge and tools to become creative thinkers, resilient individuals, and independent learners, striving for high aspirations.
The art department is one part of the creative faculty at KPHS, alongside music and drama. As a faculty we work collaboratively to provide a well-rounded creative curriculum for our students, sharing good teaching practice. The art department is made up of 3 full time and 1 part time teaching staff with a faculty technician who looks after materials and equipment.
We are seeking to appoint a passionate and enthusiastic teacher of art to join our thriving and successful department. The successful candidate will join a department with a historical track record of outstanding teaching and learning, collaborative planning and a strong team working ethos. You will be teaching both KS3 and KS4 curriculums with full support from the head of department and lead practitioners. As a
faculty we also offer a variety of extra-curricular activities for students and we would like the successful candidate to be fully involved, bringing their own practice as a specialism. The creative faculty actively engages with school productions and showcases and would like the successful candidate to involve themselves alongside department staff. As a member of staff, you will also become a form tutor, taking on a wider school responsibility. Tutor time at Kingsway Park is a vital part of the school day where you are first point of contact for our children at the start of the day, helping them prepare for their learning.
We welcome all ECT and experienced teachers to apply and if you would like a tour of the school please do get into contact with Christopher Eplett (Head of Faculty). If required, we have a full ECT programme at Kingsway Park High School to ensure that any early careers teachers are fully supported with the induction process.
The art department is very proud of the work created by our students and one of our ways to showcase outcomes is through social media. If you would like to see some of the work that our students create, please see:
