About North Halifax Grammar School

North Halifax Grammar School (NHGS) is a co-ed, state-funded grammar school with c1200 students (11-18 years), established in 1959 and operated under an Academy Trust since 2011. Located within Illingworth on the outskirts of Halifax, Calderdale. Students sit entrance tests and come from approximately 90 primary schools.

Our Vision

NHGS is a school that everyone loves: where enthusiasm is infectious and excellence is standard; where co-operation is at the heart of all we do; where everyone strives to achieve their goals and is mindful of the right ways to do so.

We equip our students with the knowledge, skills and understanding to navigate life with confidence and set courses of their own choosing.

Together, we develop the whole person by:

Living to Learn and Learning to Live

The role

The Academy is looking to appoint an energetic and well-qualified Art graduate to join a strong department in a highly academic school. The ideal candidate would be able to teach across Key Stages 3 and 4, and teach KS5 either immediately or in the near future and would be keen to work at the highest level of secondary school Art.

Successful applicants will be supported through their ECT process (if appropriate) with a dedicated mentor, in-school training and a supportive department to help them develop into a highly effective practitioner.

The candidate must be:

An inspirational teacher.

  • Driven in their relentless pursuit of the highest standards across the department.
  • Highly organised and meticulous.
  • Creative and imaginative.

All students study Art & Design in KS3 with a balanced curriculum that develops creativity, practical skills, and an understanding of artists, craftspeople and designers from a range of cultures and traditions, while preparing students for further academic study. GCSE Art & Design is a popular choice at KS4 following the Eduqas GCSE Art & Design specification. This wide-ranging course develops key artistic skills and techniques before allowing students to pursue their own creative interests through increasingly independent and personal projects. The learning journey continues at KS5 with Eduqas A Level Art, Craft & Design - a broad course which offers students the opportunity to specialise in a range of Art, Craft & Design disciplines.

The full information is available in the attached job description and person specification.
