Teacher of Computer Science job summary

Work where it matters most, achieve what matters more.

Be part of a team where passion meets purpose, as we work together where the challenge is greatest to change the lives and build the futures of children and young people.

We are a unique, small, rural 11-16 academy in the beautiful setting of North-West Worcestershire. Our pupils are happy, well behaved and proud of their school. The academy has a strong vein of moral purpose where the child is at the heart of all we do. We invest in our pupils and our staff to ensure all are supported to be the best they can be.

We are looking to appoint an innovative and committed Teacher of Computer Science. This post sits within the Maths and Computing Faculty and is the only Computer Science teacher in the academy. Teaching across all year groups, we require someone committed to developing the functional and technical sides of computing as well as the vital skills of keeping children safe online.

Our computing curriculum aims to combine and create an innovative, creative and practical subject at Tenbury High. Pupils learn how to use computer applications accurately such as the Microsoft Suite alongside digital applications for graphics and websites in ICT. The Computer Science curriculum also offers programming, taught at a practical level within the classroom. There is healthy attendance at the weekly after school programming club.

Computer Science is very popular at THOA with two GCSE groups in yr 10 and 11 - popular with girls and boys alike. At Key Stage three pupils have two lessons a fortnight and at Key Stage 4 pupil receive 5 hours a fortnight and work towards a GCSE in Computer Science.

The academy requires a candidate who sees the best in children, can motivate them as well as build supportive, respectful relationships with young people.

We invest in our people to ensure all staff are supported to be the best they can be. Staff are supported to develop professionally through a well led induction and professional development programme involving a weekly CPD session. There are also opportunities to work on curriculum and subject development through the various OAT networks available.

If you are an ECT, you will be supported through the relevant training network by a subject mentor and a professional mentor (Vice Principal in charge of Quality of Education and staff training). We use a variety of well-established and successful training and induction programmes. In addition, you will attend weekly whole school CPD opportunities as well as the chance to join a wider OAT training network. The CPD we offer our staff is excellent.
