Teacher of Design and Technology job summary
Backwell School is to appoint an enthusiastic and passionate Teacher of Design Technology from 1 September 2021 on a permanent full time basis.
An inspirational and innovative qualified teacher is required to join our Art and Design Technology Department of 7 teachers and 2 technicians. The successful candidate will be able to teach Product Design to KS4 and preferably to KS5. The ability to teach other elements of DT to KS4, or even KS5 level, would be beneficial.
The post has arisen due to the retirement of a long standing member of staff within the team. This is a small but passionate department who are always looking for ways to improve and enhance the curriculum offering to students.
The Design Technology team is led by our Subject Leader for DT and sits within the Art and Design Technology area overseen by the Curriculum Leader for Art and Design Technology. We have recently moved to assessment without levels and are currently working on developing a knowledge rich curriculum across the all key stages. The new post holder will be expected to contribute to continuing developments within the Art and Design Department and the wider school.

Backwell School is a part of the Lighthouse Schools Partnership Multi-Academy Trust. In 2020, Ofsted judged both the School and the Sixth Form to be ‘Good’. At present, the School has 1,700 students in Years 7 to 11 and 380 in the Sixth Form.
