About You:
Thistley Hough Academy is seeking an enthusiastic, innovative, and highly motivated Teacher of Design Technology and Food Studies to join our dedicated secondary school team from October 2025 to July 2026 for maternity cover. You will have a genuine passion for teaching Food Studies and the versatility to deliver engaging lessons across the wider Design Technology curriculum, including Timber and Graphics, the ability to teach hospitality would be advantageous. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced teacher looking to broaden their subject expertise in a supportive and forward-thinking school environment, or for an Early Career Teacher (ECT) eager to gain valuable classroom experience with the guidance of a skilled team of teachers and a dedicated technician. You will be a confident communicator, committed to delivering outstanding teaching and learning, with a proactive approach to curriculum planning, classroom management, and student progress. A strong focus on Health & Safety, creativity in lesson design, and a collaborative, student-centred mindset are essential to inspire and support learners across Key Stage 3.
Our ideal candidate will have:
- Qualified teacher;degree educated in a relevant subject and holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Experienced in practical teaching;confident delivering hands-on Food Studies and Design Technology lessons.
- Passionate subject specialist;enthusiastic about Food Studies and DT with a drive to inspire students.
- Health & Safety focused;experienced in maintaining and promoting high standards in practical environments.

Thistley Hough was first opened in 1938 and over the last seven decades scores of local children have been successfully educated at Thistley Hough.
