What skills and experience we're looking for

i. This position is a permanent, full-time position (part time will be considered for the right candidate) and the successful applicant will be paid on the main professional scale (M1-UPS3). In addition to teaching Design Technology the successful applicant will be required to be a form tutor. Applications are welcome from candidates at any stage of their career and from all school backgrounds.

ii. We are looking to appoint a dedicated, enthusiastic, and inspiring teacher who enjoys working collaboratively and is committed to continually improving their practice. A proactive approach to the use of technology—particularly CAD—is essential. Full training is provided for the use of all workshop machinery.

iii. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach Design and Technology across Key Stages 3 to 5. All specialisms are welcomed, and we encourage applications from teachers at any stage of their career. The role also includes responsibility for a form group and delivery of a fortnightly form period.

iv. At Key Stage 3, all students study both Design Technology and Food Preparation and Nutrition. A significant number go on to take one of these subjects at GCSE, and smaller groups continue to A-level in Product Design. The A-level course is delivered collaboratively in partnership with local schools within the Trust.

v. From September 2025, students will also have the opportunity to study the new Advanced Alternative Qualification (AAQ) in Engineering, which will enhance applied learning opportunities and support progression into technical careers or higher education in engineering-related fields.

vi. The department benefits from two dedicated Design Technology classrooms, a fully equipped workshop, advanced IT facilities for CAD, and a small suite of CAM equipment including laser cutters and 3D printers. A purpose-built Food Preparation and Nutrition room is also available. Both subject areas are supported by specialist technicians. Staff have access to a department staffroom and are issued with a school laptop.

vii. The school places the highest importance on safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All applicants must demonstrate an understanding of this responsibility throughout the recruitment process. The successful candidate will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check.
