About Our School
We benefit from a strong local reputation which is the reason we have increased our admission number to 410. Our expansion has been facilitated by the acquisition of a third site for our popular Sixth Form in the town centre. This has led to a re-organisation of our students, with Year 7 and Year 8 educated at the Dove Campus and Years 9-11 at the Trent Campus, which are half a mile apart.
We were delighted by our January 2017 Ofsted inspection which emphasised the outstanding aspects of our work, including high levels of progress and attainment. We value our staff team, and this is reflected in the wide range of professional development opportunities which are offered both internally and externally. In recent years, we have developed an international reputation for learning technologies, becoming both an Apple Distinguished School and Regional Training Centre; we provide a 1-to-1 iPad programme for all students in Year 9-Year 13.
The Department
The Faculty has a strong tradition of excellence and innovation within all areas of Design & Technology. The compulsory programme of study that is offered to Key Stage 3 students is innovative and dynamic. Students at Key Stage 4 are offered a wide range of GCSE subjects to choose from and at Key Stage 5 we offer Design and Technology: Product Design and Design and Technology: Fashion and Textiles. There are eight members of staff teaching Design and Technology and two full-time and two part-time Technicians for the faculty.

Following on from 10 years as a specialist Technology College, de Ferrers became an Academy in January 2011. It has grown into a large, split-site, co-educational institution catering for the full range of students from ages 11 to 18. In 2015, de Ferrers became the first school of Affinity Learning Partnership (a Multi Academy Trust).
Excellent funding has allowed the Academy to enhance resources and equipment and widely promote the use of new technologies. There are digital projectors and flat-screen TVs in all curriculum areas, with over 500 computers and laptops across all sites.
From October 2012, the Academy became the first school in Staffordshire to provide all sixth form students with access to a personal one-to-one iPad for use in lessons and at home. Currently, all students in Years 9 to 13 (Trent and Sixth Form Campuses) have their own iPad, as well as all teaching staff and most support staff.
At The de Ferrers Academy, we believe in working hard, being kind and choosing wisely. We are privileged to work in a community where we have a positive impact on children’s lives and futures every day.
