Teacher of Design Technology and Food Technology job summary

Co-op Academy Failsworth

We are looking for a Teacher of Design Technology and Food Technology to start Easter 2026 or earlier to join our Technology department.

We are looking for a Teacher of Design and Technology to join our vibrant Technology department.

The Technology Department at Co-op Academy Failsworth is forward-looking and dynamic. Innovation, practical application, and design-thinking are at the core of our curriculum. Our pupils are afforded the opportunity to master a range of technical skills—from traditional craftsmanship to modern digital manufacturing—using creativity, precision, and confidence.

The Department is led by a dedicated Head of Department who fosters a collaborative environment where staff share a passion for the "maker" culture. We pride ourselves on being at the forefront of vocational and technical education, maintaining strong links with local industry partners and professional bodies to ensure our curriculum remains relevant to the modern world.

We require teachers to be forward-thinking, reflective, and passionate practitioners who can inspire the next generation of designers, engineers, and chefs. Co-op Academy Failsworth is an excellent school for those keen to learn from and contribute to the latest developments in pedagogical research and technical theory. In return, we offer outstanding access to in-house and external CPD to support the growth of both learners and teachers. Team members are expected to teach across the full age and ability range, including both Design Technology and Food Technology.

At KS4, students can choose from a range of high-value technical qualifications. Our team is committed to maximising every student’s progress, ensuring they develop the life skills and technical expertise necessary to achieve their potential. Through continued hard work and a focus on "quality first" teaching, the academy is expecting to continue to improve its results with the current cohort.

The Technology Department looks forward to working with a committed and talented colleague who can develop strong relationships with pupils, spark their curiosity for how the world is built, and lead the consistent delivery of high-quality teaching at Co-op Academy Failsworth.

Why us?

At Co-op Academy Failsworth, is a fully inclusive, popular and over-subscribed 11-16 comprehensive Academy with almost 1500 students on roll.  In June 2024 OFSTED rated the school good.  We are located 3 miles from Manchester city centre, situated 1 mile from junction 22 of the M60. Our priority is to recruit the very best of staff for our Academy.  Our staff enjoy working at our academy and you would be welcome to speak to them about their experience of working at the Academy.  The academy is very focused on staff wellbeing.

Ofsted:

"Pupils are happy to come to school. They enjoy making friends and they are supportive of each other".

"Pupils appreciate the support and care that is provided by staff. This helps pupils to feel safe".

"…pupils engage positively with their learning. As a result, behaviour in class and during social times is usually calm and orderly".

"Subject curriculums are well designed. The ‘powerful knowledge’ that the school wants pupils to learn is clearly identified. Subject content is introduced in a logical order so that

pupils build their knowledge over time".

"Teachers have good subject knowledge. They select appropriate activities to support pupils to learn the intended curriculum".

"The school has introduced a rigorous and well-structured approach to assessment. This supports staff to deliver the curriculum effectively, pre-empting pupils’ difficulties, identifying misconceptions and gaps in pupils’ knowledge and then using this information to plan for future learning".

The school’s behaviour management system is underpinned by the trust’s values, including ‘be yourself always’ and ‘succeeding together’…pupils live up to these values and are considerate towards each other.

"Learning is rarely disrupted by poor behaviour".

All our values are based upon the values of the Co-op Group, which will inform our behaviours.

Self-help: We do not expect to be spoon fed – we will try to do things for ourselves in the right way and at the right time.

Self-responsibility: Everyone should act in a responsible way around the academy site and in the local community. We take responsibility for our own learning; we want to become independent learners.

Equality: We are proud to be part of a very multicultural academy, with students from all over the world; it is important that we treat each other with respect and accept that others may be different from ourselves. We should all have equal chances to succeed.

Equity: We want to look for the best in each other. Rewarding others fairly to encourage all types of achievement.

Democracy: We will contribute our ideas to make the academy a success.

Solidarity: We can achieve more by working together, rather than as individuals.
