Teacher of Design & Technology job summary

An exciting opportunity for a passionate and enthusiastic Teacher of Design & Technology to join our Art & Design Faculty. You will have the skills to engage and motivate students across the age and ability range and advocate the importance of creative subjects within the curriculum.

At KS3, students benefit from the opportunity to study a range of specialisms across the faculty: Art, Food, Graphics, Product Design and Textiles. At KS4, the faculty currently has 16 classes across these disciplines, and the subjects continue to grow in popularity. At A Level, we have classes in Art, Photography and Product Design.

We are seeking a teacher with a specialism in Product Design who is willing to teach Food or Textiles at KS3. The successful candidate will be welcomed into a department of highly experienced and supportive colleagues.

We welcome applications from experienced and Early Career Teachers (ECTs).

Ofsted (2024) commented that (pupils) “are active participants in their learning and consistently demonstrate high levels of focus … teachers are experts in the subjects they teach … pupils’ conduct and manners are exemplary … any disruption to learning is incredibly rare… staff are extremely positive about the support that they receive from leaders…particularly around their professional development and well-being”. The inspection included a deep dive into several subjects including Design and Technology.

Parmiter’s coordinates CPD for the Watford Partnership for Teacher Training and offers a robust induction programme. We can offer the successful candidate:

  • July 1st start date for ECTs with a comprehensive programme to support the Early Career Framework and bespoke CPD to suit your career goals.

  • Focus on Staff Well-Being with an online GP service, Employee Assistance Programme, complimentary use of the on-site Fitness Suite and an on-site subsidised electric vehicle charging point.

  • A high-quality and well-resourced teaching environment with highly talented and engaged students.

  • An admission policy prioritising the children of staff (a qualifying period may apply).

  • Lovely school grounds in leafy surrounds with ample parking.

Parmiter’s School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expects all members of staff to share this commitment. Applicants must declare any criminal convictions as the post is exempt under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Appointments will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via the Disclosure and Barring Service and references from previous employers. We are required to conduct online searches for shortlisted candidates in accordance with the Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance in order to identify any incidents or concerns which are publicly available online. We are an Equal Opportunities employer.

Parmiter's is a partially selective 11-18 co-educational school of 1496 students, including 418 in the Sixth Form. Academic results are consistently strong and we remain the most heavily oversubscribed school in Hertfordshire.

Parmiter’s is an academy, receiving government funding as well as support from the Parmiter's Foundation, which owns the school and its site and continues to invest in the school’s development. Our accommodation, sports and many other facilities are exceptionally good, well-resourced and well-maintained.

In July 2024, Ofsted rated the school Outstanding in all areas, commenting, "Throughout the school, including the Sixth Form, pupils thrive. They receive an exceptional standard of education. Not only do pupils achieve high academic success, but they also develop into well-rounded, active members of society."

As a large secondary Academy, we have many opportunities for both teaching and support staff. Parmiter's is an exciting and enjoyable place to work. New colleagues are made welcome and supported by a comprehensive induction programme, which means that you quickly feel at home.
