Your opportunity to deliver inspiring Design & Technology teaching and shape confident, creative problem solvers of the future

We are seeking an inspirational Teacher of Design & Technology, with a specialism in Engineering and DT Timbers, to join our team at Tewkesbury Academy. With your subject expertise, you will deliver a high‑quality and engaging D&T curriculum across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5, developing students’ creativity, technical knowledge and practical capability. You will play a key role in teaching both engineering principles and timber-based design and manufacture, enabling students to design, prototype and produce high‑quality outcomes using a range of materials, tools and processes within a well-equipped workshop environment.

Through your teaching, students will gain a strong understanding of the full design process, from initial concept and research through to development, testing and evaluation, alongside core engineering concepts such as structures, forces, mechanisms and material properties. You will foster precision, independence and a strong culture of safe working practices, while encouraging innovation and problem solving through hands-on, practical learning.

Our commitment to high standards, an ambitious and knowledge-rich curriculum, and excellent teaching ensures that all students are supported to become innovative, resilient and technically skilled learners. We aim to inspire curiosity, confidence and pride in practical achievement, empowering young people with the creativity and capability they need for future study, employment and life beyond school.

About you

You will be:

  • A qualified teacher, or hold an equivalent teaching qualification, with strong subject knowledge in Design & Technology, particularly Engineering and DT Timbers.
  • Confident in delivering the D&T curriculum across relevant key stages, designing and teaching high-quality lessons that promote creativity, technical precision, practical workshop skills and a passion for designing and making with a range of materials, including timber.
  • Skilled in developing students’ understanding of the design process, material properties, workshop safety and manufacturing techniques, enabling them to produce high-quality, functional outcomes.
  • Skilled in meeting the needs of learners from identified groups, including pupil premium, looked‑after children, SEND, EAL and high attaining students, ensuring all pupils are supported, challenged and able to succeed within the D&T curriculum.
  • A strong communicator who embraces change, motivates colleagues and builds positive, supportive relationships with students, staff and parents.
  • Committed to recognising and supporting learning opportunities beyond the classroom, contributing to enrichment activities such as STEM clubs, design-and-make projects, engineering challenges, competitions, or employer-linked initiatives that deepen students’ understanding of design, manufacturing and engineering.
  • Empowered to develop your own expert practice while supporting collaboration, consistency and innovation within the D&T department and the wider academy.
  • Highly competent across all aspects of the Teachers’ Standards, with substantial and sustained impact if applying for a post on the Upper Pay Scale.

Applicants are advised to refer to the full requirements of the role in the attached job description and person specification, prior to submitting an application.
