Teacher of Design Technology job summary
We are a unique, small, rural 11-16 academy in the beautiful setting of North-West Worcestershire. Our pupils are happy, well behaved and proud of their school. The academy has a strong vein of moral purpose where the child is at the heart of all we do. We invest in our pupils and our staff to ensure all are supported to be the best they can be.
We are looking for a driven and committed practitioner to teach Design Technology at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. This is a popular subject throughout the 7 -11 curriculum. Pupils at KS4 currently follow the AQA DT Resistant Materials specification. The post sits within the Create Faculty consisting of Resistant Materials (Design Technology), Art and Food and Nutrition. The team are experienced, collaborative and passionate about providing the best possible provision for the children at Tenbury High.
The faculty is committed to delivering a curriculum in which practical and creative learning sits at the heart of lesson planning. The teacher will plan and deliver increasingly challenging projects that develop problem solving working with a variety of materials. Pupils learn a broad subject knowledge that incorporates Maths, Science, Engineering and Art. We, of course, use the technology that is now common in the engineering and design world but there is still a focus on the traditional handmade skills that establishes a solid foundation. Design Technology is a rigorous subject that gives the pupils the opportunity to become resilient, risk taking and enterprising citizens. They will study the work of others and understand how design is developed through people’s views and specific needs. Pupils who study Design Technology can go on to make a massive contribution to the creativity, wealth and culture of the world.
The postholder will be able to teach Design Technology: Resistant Materials across both key stages.
The facilities and resources within the faculty are excellent. The post holder would work with a full time dedicated technician. We have fantastic specialist classrooms for the delivery of this course. A graphics room with computer aided design facilities for every student and an adjoining workshop fully kitted out for wood, metal, plastic and CAD CAM projects. We have a forge, lathes, laser cutter and brazing hearth. The faculty classrooms are all located together and create a thriving creative environment that is very popular with our students. The resources and learning environment allows for ambitious and challenging project briefs to be tackled by all students.
In order to understand our very special characteristics, you are welcome to visit the academy to tour and meet with members of our staff and our pupils. Please contact Christine Sheppard, Office Manager, to organise this (csheppard@tenburyhigh.co.uk).
I am grateful for the interest that you have shown and would urge you to apply for the post. I do not believe in making the recruitment process a task which is too arduous to complete. Therefore, I ask you simply to complete the application form on the OAT Careers Board and include the following information:
your educational philosophy
your experience to date and how it has prepared you for this role
Please note that the closing date for all applications is Friday 26th April 2024. Interviews will be held the following week.
