Teacher of Design & Technology job summary

The Bishop Wand School is looking to appoint an inspirational Design and Technology Teacher for September 2026 or sooner.

The Design and Technology Department at The Bishop Wand School is a team of outstanding, dynamic and supportive teachers who bring energy and enthusiasm to the delivery of their subject. The position would be suitable for an ECT or an experienced teacher seeking increased responsibility and a new challenge, with a TLR available for the right candidate. The role will include teaching of Design and Technology across KS3 to KS4 and all ability ranges, however the ability to also teach KS5 would be an advantage.

We currently offer a full range of Design and Technology subjects using a fully resourced department. Our students enjoy access to a wood and metal workshop, a food technology kitchen, a fabric and textiles room, a CAD suite including 3D printers, vinyl cutter, laser cutter and a new creative suite with 36 wide screen computers. We have also invested in two class sets of laptops to support with flexible teaching at KS4 and KS5 when students are keen to work in different specialisms.

Technology is part of the Computing, Art and Technology Faculty and we work closely with our Art Department who have a dark room and two art studios including a kiln. The ability to teach Art would be welcomed, although this is not essential.

The Design and Technology team is innovative and constantly developing new and modern projects with enthusiasm. One of their strengths is to creatively tailor the curriculum to our students’ needs for the future. Our GCSE Design and Technology results have been consistently excellent, achieving some of the highest residuals in the School.

The Design and Technology Department strongly values enriching the learning experience of our students and have fully embraced the new Brighter Futures programme, involving The Young Architect Club, Bespoke Jewellery Club, Landscape Design Club, Pupil Premium Cooking Club and Bishop Wand Bake Off. The department is always keen to observe design in action and has led trips abroad to Cern and Paris to explore the development of our world through design and technology.
