Teacher of Design & Technology job summary
At Thomas Alleyne we support our students to be able to problem solve in real world situations and our students are encouraged to be innovative. We encourage them to make creative use of a variety of resources including traditional and digital technologies, to improve the world around them by understanding the importance of sustainability. We have two practical areas; a woodworking and a metalworking workshop, which are equipped with all the latest tools to aid teaching from a laser cutter to two 3D printers. The department also has a dedicated Design and Technology Technician.
Working with students in Key Stage 3 and 4, as a teacher you will:
Promote good progress and outcomes by being aware of students’ capabilities and their prior knowledge, and plan teaching to build on these, along with encouraging students to take a responsible and conscientious attitude to their own work and study.
Plan and teach well-structured lessons, promoting a love of learning and children’s intellectual curiosity, and setting homework and planning other out-of-class activities to consolidate and extend the knowledge and understanding students have acquired.
Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all students, making accurate and productive use of assessment.
Manage behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment.
Fulfil wider professional responsibilities by making a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the academy, developing effective professional relationships with colleagues, and taking responsibility for improving teaching through appropriate professional development.
